Deirdre, Graphic Designer Came to Our Room!

Yesterday, the 24th of November 2016 Deirdre visited our classroom. Deirdre’s job is a graphic designer. She is also a good friend of Ms. O’Doherty. She designs posters, book covers, logos and website designs. Deirdre told us about a regular day on her work shift. She would normally begin with meetings in the morning where her colleagues share their ideas. Then they would also do some sketches for their clients who want a logo or a website designs. Then they would present it to the client and then to the world! Right now Deirdre is working on Christmas eir DMs (daily mailings). Deirdre said that they used sharpies to do some sketches to see how they would plan it. Deirdre said that they do the final design on computer.

She joined our art lesson. We were doing winter pictures with our teacher Ms. Fenlon. She showed us how to work with chalk pastels and drew a house, a tree, a fence, some swirls to represent the wind and the sky as an example. Deirdre drew the lamp posts and gave the sky some finishing touches! When we started our winter pictures. Ms. Fenlon and Deirdre pointed out to us that we should start with the background using lighter colours and build up to the darker colours in the foreground. Every once in a while something would be added to the picture on the white board. Deirdre asked us if we would like to have her job as a Graphic Designer. Everybody put their hand up, and that’s twenty-eight kids! We all love art!
