Life in the SEN Room

Life in the SEN Room

We have been very busy for the last few months. We have completed the Write A Book project which resulted in Dáire winning in his category! We visited St. Anne’s School in Ennis so that Éanna could interview Fiona, the Deputy Principal, he could see the classrooms and fabulous facilities and he could catch up with our past pupil Amelia!

Here in the playground in Kiltiernan we planned a little sensory garden. Ms. Fenlon, Éanna and Leighton went shopping for plants in Keane’s Garden Centre. We got advice and help from Brigid, our former SNA and garden specialist.

We also got a lot of help from our wonderful caretaker, Paul McWalter who added a touch of magic to our garden, with a fisherman and pond, with wheel spinners that look like magical whirls and wind chimes which make music in the breeze. He even hid a squirrel and an owl in the tree branches overhead…We were amazed at how it all turned out.

Thank you everyone and now we can enjoy the fruits of our labours every day!

We have been working on personal goals to complete before the summer holidays on physical fitness, skills like bowling and on public speaking. To achieve this last goal, we presented PowerPoints to our classes.

We learned that we can become ‘experts’ by researching a topic and we can engage others with our enthusiasm. We learned a lot about making a PowerPoint, about the need to speak clearly so that our listeners can understand us. We learned how to share information we have learned with an audience which is not on the screen.

Éanna presented his PowerPoint to the Senior Room on Clean Energy and is now making one on France, as he is supporting France in Ms. Leech’s World Cup competition in the Senior Room. Leighton presented his special interest subject on The Evolution of Television, Dáire showed off his expertise with Life in Space and Róisín charmed her classmates with her PowerPoint titled Róisín’s Amazing World of Animals.
