9th January 2014
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year and a warm welcome back to you all to another busy term at school.
Dancing has resumed today with Louise and will continue for 6 weeks until the mid-term break. This will finish Irish dancing for this school year. The costs are as follows- 1 child €12, 2 children €24 and 3 children €35. This can be sent in to your class teacher please.
In the middle room we have a student teacher from Mary Immaculate College. She will be with us for ten days and will be visited and assessed during that time by the college. Her name is Maeve Quinn.
We also have Roisin Rodgers our student teacher of music back with us for 12 weeks. She will be taking 1st class and 4th class on Wednesday mornings.
January means ‘Write a book’ throughout our school. It is now time to discuss ideas regarding what book your child might write. Planning and formal work on this project will begin shortly. Our annual BOOK WEEK takes place from 4th – 8th March. This will be a fun week for all with lots of fun activities for all.
Our new website www.kiltiernanschool.ie is up and running and ready for an official launch shortly. I would like to thank the Parents’ Council for their support in funding this website and being willing to be involved in the maintenance/updating of the site going forward. Training is ongoing with our I.T. adviser, staff and Parent Council representatives.
Term 2 brings Table Quizzes in our locality. We are busy preparing at school. The first one is in the Meadow Court Hotel on Friday 24th January at 7.15pm. These will be followed by the annual Gort and Kinvara District Credit Union Quizzes held locally in the last week of January and first week of February. We
presently have Gort details as follows: Friday 31/1/2014 in Gort Community Centre with registration at 7.30p.m. Should your child be selected to represent the school U 11 or U13 in these quizzes please let us know if they are available to attend. A panel of substitutes will be on standby should anyone be unavailable.
The staff continue their work on the Literacy & Numeracy strategy this term which will involve school visits from the PDST for in school support.
Confirmation preparation begins with a meeting on Tuesday 14th January. This will be followed by an Enrolment Mass on Saturday February 1st. The children will then partake in ‘You shall be my Witness’ programme over 4 weeks in February. These are the provisional dates that were indicated before Christmas. Unfortunately Fr. Roche is away at present so we are unable to confirm these dates today but will do so next week.
We have been notified by Gort Community School that the Open Day for current 6th Class students and their parents will take place on Friday 24h January at 1.00p.m.
Our next break is Thursday 20th and Friday 21st February.
Lenrec Recycling will collect from the school on Thursday 16th January. Please bring along all your used clothing, shoes, curtains or bed linen. Mobile phones also welcome. All proceeds will go to school funds. Please leave bags at gate on Thursday morning.
