Write-A-Book Winners 2015
A big congratulations to our Write-a-Book winners 2015.
A big congratulations to our Write-a-Book winners 2015.
Our senior pupils were working on some very cool science projects and they shared their electricity experiments with us in the Junior Room.
We really enjoyed our visit to Oranmore Library during Book Week.
Winter in the Junior Room
The Junior Room will be having our Christmas Concert on Friday, the 12th of December at 2pm in the Halla in school. We will act out our Nativity drama, and following that, show ‘The Gruffalo’ video which every child in the class participated in creating, under the direction of puppeteer Tommy Baker, and Ms. O Doherty.
For any parent who cannot attend on that day, you would be more than welcome to come to see the dress rehearsal on Thursday the 11th in the Halla, at 1 pm.
We will be selling raffle tickets at our concert. These tickets sold will be included in the raffle at the main concert on Tuesday the 16th Dec 7pm in Labane hall.
First Class will also be part of the school choir which will perform a selection of Christmas Carols at the 2nd to 6th class concert on Tuesday the 16th.
Sr. Breda will be visiting for our yearly religious exam on November the 12th where our class will take part in a prayer service in the Halla.
Treat and Toy Friday is on November the 28th, and then December the19th.
We will get holidays at 12.30pm on December the 19th.
Our November birthday heroes are Peader and Killian.
December birthday dynamos are Alex, Corey and Orlaith.
Our only January jelly baby is Sarah.
Happy Christmas to everyone, and we wish a safe and peaceful Christmas, and a productive fun New Year.
We had a busy autumn in the Junior Room.
We began working with puppeteer Tommy Baker to develop a drama based on our class novel ‘The Gruffalo’. We used some unusual instruments, such as a dulcimer and an ubu to provide sound effects to recreate the sounds heard in a forest. Well done especially to Lauren our mouse, Matthew Quinn our fox, Sean the snake, Corey the owl, Meadbh as Gruffalo and Ellie the narrator.
We had a visit from Dawn from the Dogs Trust to teach us how to look after dogs and greet unfamiliar dogs.
We also met Kay who talked all about Biodiversity and how we can continue to promote it in our school.
Our fancy dress day in school went down a treat where we had ghosts, ghouls and guess who people to name just a few.
After that, the Parents’ Council ran a great Bingo fundraiser in Bradley’s in Labane which was a huge success.
Our summer birthday bunnies were Erin, Sophia and Aidan.
Happy birthday to our September Star Diarmuid.
Happy Birthday to the October legends Mark F and Iarla.
For the parents of Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First class
In Athenry Castle, we will dress up in medieval costume, have a tour of the castle and weather permitting, spend time outside on activities such as archery and partake in a maze treasure hunt. After, we will eat lunch and head to Busy Bees for more fun. You can collect your child at 3.15 at the school.
Suitable clothes
All children are asked to wear socks as they will have to take off their shoes in the indoor play area. Please provide a raincoat for your child if there is any chance of rain on the day, and also sun screen in case we see the sun at any stage!
Lunch
The children can bring a packed lunch which we will eat there. They will have small break and big break. It wouldn’t be a tour if treats weren’t allowed but please don’t bring fizzy drinks or chewing gum as normal on treat Friday. As we will be doing lots of running around, an extra drink in the lunchbox might be a good idea.
Senior Infants
May
Hello there. Summer is here at last!
We have a busy month in school as usual. Congratulations to Second Class who made their Communion this month. Mark Bruen, Orlaith, Peader and Iarla all had brothers and sisters receiving the sacrament.
Also, we’d like to congratulate 6th Class who are making their Confirmation on Tuesday the 20th of May. Meadbh has a brother making it.
Swimming has started, and we are learning all about water safety and rules for the water. Captain Bird’s Eye is great for showing us how to stay safe. We have learned about safety at the pool, at the beach and at home.
Last week, we learned how to put someone in the recovery position if they’re not well, and Miss showed us how to resuscitate a doll!
School is closed for elections on the 23rd.
Don’t forget to put sun screen on for the lovely warm days to come this term!
We have no birthdays in May but the One Direction concert will provide enough excitement for this month.

March 2014
Well, we’re delighted to tell you that once again, we are published authors! We will announce Write- a -Book winners next month but everyone did a fabulous job with their own books, it was very hard work but we’re delighted with the finished product. Thanks again for all the help!
Book Week was a great success, and we learned a lot from it, as well as having loads of fun. We had a visit from a storyteller, Jonathan Gunning, who was very funny! We paid a visit to Oranmore library where we took books out with our library cards.
One of the best parts of the week was reading with our Senior Buddies. We got to know some of the big boys and girls who we don’t often get to chat to, and it was brilliant.
Patricia Forde was the visiting author, and she was great fun. We loved Book Week, and are looking forward to next year already!
Bhí seachtain na gaeilge againn freisin agus rinneamar iarracht mhór an teanga a labhairt ar an gclós.
St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated by all in style!
We only have one spin on the chair to give this month- Katie will be seven soon. Below are pictures of our library visit.
We completed our MIST and it wasn’t stressful at all! Phew, busy month!

Spring has sprung in Senior Infants! We’re looking forward to the rain stopping so we can go on the grass again; it’s been a long time!
In Maths, we learned value of numbers, and play games to find out what numbers are squashed between numbers teacher calls out.
Our Write- a- Books are coming along brilliantly, we are nearly finished them and will have pictures here of the published books next month.
We would like to wish the Ardrahan Senior Camogie team all the very best in the All Ireland in Croke Park on Sunday March the 2nd. We drew pictures and decorated slogans to support the team, we’re all behind you!
Ms. O Doherty is on an EPV day on Friday the 28TH of February.
Happy birthday this month to three girls in our room who all, remarkably have the same birthday- they are Ellie, Béibhinn and Tara. The chair got plenty of spins that day! Ellie and Béibhinn are both six and had a really great birthday party. They got to do magic!
We brought teddy in to school for Art this month. We used our teddies as inspiration to draw an oil pastel portrait. Here are our masterpieces!
