Proclamation Day by Grace
Proclamation Day
On Tuesday the 15th of March it was Proclamation Day. Tom O’ Doherty, retired principal and local historian, came to our school. Tom talked about the 1916 Rising which was very interesting. He told us about Castle Taylor and the Shaw Taylor family, the landlords. Tom also read out the 1916 Proclamation. Oisín, Ava, Abbie, Emma and Adam read out our new proclamation then Ms. Leech’s classroom played Amhráin na bhFiann on the tin whistle. During our singing James the oldest pupil and Daniel our youngest pupil in the school raised the Irish flag. It was a simple and short ceremony to celebrate and event which happened one hundred years ago. Ms. Fenlon told us that this moment was a once in a lifetime event so it was very special. This is how we celebrated the memory of 1916 Rising.
