We raised this money at our recent Coffee morning and we are very grateful to our teachers, parents, neighbours and Lagan Construction for their support. We were delighted to hear how the money raised will help the Hospice. Sincere thank you to John Meehan for travelling to our school to accept the cheque and talk to us about the great work of Galway Hospice.

May 26th 2015
On Tuesday the 26th of May some students from 1st to 6th class travelled to Dangan to participate in in a schools athletics competition. We initially ran off an internal event in our school to pick the pupils who would represent Kiltiernan.
It was an early start for competitors as we had to leave our homes at 8:00 am to be in Dangan for 9:30 Am. We arrived early so that gave us time to run a lap around the track and warm up. Once the races had begun time flew and before you knew we were ready for the semi-finals. Orla, Grace, Tara, Abbie, Stephen and David had all made it to the Semi Finals. The boys’ relay made it straight into the final. After some very competitive semi- finals Abbie and Stephen qualified for their respective finals. Stephens’s race was on first. He was partaking in the under 11 boys’ 400 metre race. Thankfully he ran a great race and finished 2nd picking up a silver medal- our first of the day. Next Abbie ran in the girls’ 100m sprint. After a tight race she finished an honourable 4th. The last race of the day saw the boys’ relay team finish a fantastic fifth. Overall it was a fantastic day and we are already looking forward to next year’s competition.

Reading and Maths Drumcondra Tests.
/in 6th Class /by 5ch00lAdm1nReading and Maths Drumcondra Tests.
On the 19th and 27th of May we had our Drumcondra Reading and Maths tests. The tests take place annually. They are a test of literacy and numeracy standards in our school. There were three parts in the Maths test and two parts in the reading test for third to sixth class. There were three comprehensions and challenging questions in the reading test.
In the maths test we had questions on the maths we learned this year. Some of the parts were challenging and some of the parts were more manageable. I enjoyed the tests and thought they flew by quite quickly.

Gort Evaluation
/in 6th Class /by 5ch00lAdm1nGort Evaluation
On Saturday the 18th of April 6th went to Gort Community School for our evaluation exam. Firstly we did English. We had to write an essay on our favourite film. Then we had to answer numerous questions on a comprehension.
Afterwards we did the math test. It was very manageable but tiring. We had our lunch before we began our Irish test.
When we began the Irish test it wasn’t very difficult but it got more challenging as we were asked difficult grammar questions. Then we did an essay
It was very difficult but I still really thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our Visit to Thoor Ballylee
/in 4th Class, 5th Class, 6th Class /by 5ch00lAdm1nOur Visit to Thoor Ballylee
On the 7th of May, 2015 the senior room went to thoor Ballylee for a poetry workshop. Thoor Ballylee used to be owned by the famous poet W.B. Yeats. He used thoor Ballylee as a summer house for him and his family. He wrote on a plaque that he restored the Norman Tower for his wife George. Currently the tower has an extension which looks like a cottage. It is painted white and has green door, windows and shutters. The tower is beside the Streamstown River and is surrounded by woodland.
