It was hard to beat this year’s opening week, where we had News2Day filming our big match build up for the All Ireland Final. The children dressed up in all their Galway colours and created chants and slogans to send the team on their way to Dublin with wind in their sails. Junior Infants will never forget their second day in school!
October brought a fantastic Grandparents’ Day, which everyone enjoyed emmencely. It was great to show the Grandparents how much they mean to us in our lives and hear the interesting stories they passed along that day. Thanks to all who came and we will see you in 2017 for another great day.
We also worked very hard of course, with lots of Jolly Phonics, list words and Maths. Don’t forget to ask what we’re learning about in school these days!
Happy birthday to the summer birthday boys and girls Ella and Sophia in July, Nathan and Aidan in August who will get their spin on the chair by hook or by crook!!
Happy birthday to Ultan and Jack who celebrated in September, and to Conor whose birthday was in October.

The children of Kiltiernan were very proud to present a cheque for €960 to John Meehan from Galway Hospice. We raised this money at our recent Coffee morning and we are very grateful to our teachers, parents, neighbours and Lagan Construction for their support. We were delighted to hear how the money raised will help the Hospice. Sincere thank you to John Meehan for travelling to our school to accept the cheque and talk to us about the great work of Galway Hospice.
Congratulations to David & Stephen on their success in the Galway Schools Community Games held recently in Renmore. Best of luck in the Connaught finals in Leitrim on Saturday, 17th October.

On Thursday, 17th September, we welcomed parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours into our school to support our 3rd annual Hospice Coffee Morning. We are very grateful to our parents for baking, making tea & coffee and supporting our fundraiser which was a phenomenal success, raising €964 for Galway Hospice.
We would like to extend a very special thank you to our newest neighbours, Lagan Construction, for supporting our coffee morning. Helena’s scones went down a treat with the workers and we are very grateful for their support.
Minister Simon Harris, with responsibility for the O.P.W. visited Kiltiernan NS on August 4th last.
The purpose of the visit was to bring to the ministers attention the impact recent flooding has had on the school community and local villages. This threat is now heightened with the construction of the new M18 motorway. The meeting was chaired by Councillor Joe Byrne with contributions from Mattie Hallinan (who has fought tirelessly over the years to alleviate the flooding in South Galway), Edel Leech, Principal of Kiltiernan NS, Gert O’Rourke, local T.Ds. and many members of the local community.
The school was delighted when the Minister announced funding of €250,000 towards the proposed works.

On Tuesday, 2nd September RTE came to our school to tape a segment for the build up to the big game on Sunday. We are looking forward to seeing ourselves on telly Friday evening. Very best of luck to Galway against Kilkenny in the big game. We hope St. Anthony will answer our prayers and bring home Liam!
