Junior Infants May 2014

Junior Infants

May

Hello everybody. Summer is here, so time for lots of outdoor fun.

We have a busy month in school as usual.

Congratulations to Second Class who made their Communion this month- Seán has a brother who received the sacrament and it was a very special day for all the boys and girls.

Also, we’d like to congratulate 6th Class who are making their Confirmation on Tuesday the 20th of May. We hope the sun shines for you all.

The big lads go swimming every Friday and we learn all about how to stay safe in the water. Captain Bird’s Eye has lots of funny pictures to explain all the rules. Fridays are really great because we get to use the big pitch at big break.

School is closed for elections on the 23rd.

Don’t forget to put sun screen on for the lovely warm days to come this term!

Hello there. Summer is here at last!

We have a busy month in school as usual. Congratulations to Second Class who made their Communion this month. Mark Bruen, Orlaith, Peader and  Iarla all had brothers and sisters receiving the sacrament.

Also, we’d like to congratulate 6th Class who are making their Confirmation on Tuesday the 20th of May. Meadbh has a brother making it.

Swimming has started, and we are learning all about water safety and rules for the water. Captain Bird’s Eye is great for showing us how to stay safe.  We have learned about safety at the pool, at the beach and at home.

Last week, we learned how to put someone in the recovery position if they’re not well, and Miss showed us how to resuscitate a doll!

School is closed for elections on the 23rd.

Don’t forget to put sun screen on for the lovely warm days to come this term!

We have no birthdays in May but the One Direction concert will provide enough excitement for this month.

Show and Tell in the Senior Room

Show and Tell

On the 10th and 11th of April, we did show and tell. We had a lot of interesting items such as an old record player, brownies, a side saddle, teddy bears from Hamleys and a cast iron kettle. Most of the demonstrations included a power point presentation. We had many pets in and outside our classroom such as dogs, a lamb and even a hen. Oscar, Laura’s dog was not able to come in this week so he came in last week! We had great fun looking at all the interesting objects and chasing the animals around the school. Do it again after Easter Miss?!

April in the Middle Room

April News from the Middle Room

We have been enjoying the fruits of our labours! We got our Write-A-Book Project entries back from Galway Education Centre…Thank you Ms. O’Doherty! We have been re-reading them with pride and great satisfaction.

For example … Adam said “This is exactly the kind of book I would I would like to read if I hadn’t written this myself!” when he got his book back!

We are learning about the Normans and it is very interesting to watch the news of President Higgins’ visit to Windsor Castle and all the talk about how Ireland’s relationship with England has changed over the last 8oo years. Reporters keep mentioning how Diarmuid MacMurrough invited Strongbow to Ireland to help him fight his enemies…beginning a relationship that wasn’t always as friendly and happy as it is now. We are making power points about different parts of the Norman story in Ireland. We will become experts after our research and teach each other!

We had a No Uniform Day to raise funds on behalf of two of our past pupils David and Siobhán who will hopefully participate in the Special Olympics…Siobhán’s nephew is in our room and he is her biggest fan…Good luck David & Siobhán!

We are really looking forward to Easter and there is a rumour about an Easter Egg Hunt before we go on holiday…Happy Days!

Write a Book

Our Write a Books are finished

Our Write – a-  Books  are finished!

By the 7th of March everybody had finally finished their wonderful write a books. A few days later they were sent to the Galway education centre to be distributed to another school. At the school they were judged by other teachers and eventually sent back to the education centre with long awaited results. Last week they were collected by one of our teachers.

We held an assembly where the winners and highly commended entrants were announced. There was a winner in every class as well as a few highly commended works. In the Senior classroom the winners included John, Chloe and Simon. Highly commended awards were given to Ben, Laura, Aine, Erica, Oisin, Hannah, Molly, Aoibhe and John. Congratulations to everyone who took part and well done for all the hard work. We are delighted to finally be finished it for another year but it was a rewarding experience.
