My Communion by Erin

My Communion

On Saturday it was my 1st Holy Communion! I had 40 people coming to my house. First I got dressed, then had breakfast. Next we went to take photos. Then we went to the church. We gathered together in the chapel at the rear of the Church. We were preparing to go in a procession to our seats.

I was last, on my own! I was in the first group to go up on the altar! Tara and I sang the Gospel Acclamation. We prayed and sang and did the actions for the Our Father. Then I received Holy Communion. After mass, we went to the hall in Labane, for treats. Then we went home. I had to take more pictures! I got out of my dress straight after the pictures. I went on my bouncy castle slide. Then we had soup. I went back on the bouncy castle slide. We had spaghetti for dinner. Then we watched Annie. We had my cake for dessert. Everybody went home. On Sunday. Ellie, Ava, Edel and Erin came over. We went on the bouncy castle. Then they went home. My sister and I watched TV and soon it was time for bed.

I had the most amazing weekend!

The highlight for me was sliding down the slide of my bouncy castle in my garden!

My 1st Holy Communion by Clodagh

My First Holy Communion

On Saturday it was my communion. I was so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so excited. I got up at haft past seven. My dad brought me to the hairdresser at 10:30am. I got curls in my hair. The hairdresser was so nice. She gave me two flower clips to put in my hair. She also gave me lots of other little clips. When I got home I put on my communion dress. I fell like a princess! I got to eat a croissant before the mass. I got to sit in the front of the car.

When it was time to try the Holy bread. I never knew that there was a cross sign on the Holy bread. Its texture feels dry like cardboard. The taste is alright. My cousin loves the taste of it.

When the mass was over. My family and I went to Labone hall, After the mass we went back to the house. There were lots of cars outside the gate. I asked my mom to take off my dress. It was so hard to do anything to do in even to walk in!

The party was so much fun. I ran up the steps of the bouncy castle. Soon it was time for the cake. It was time for the cake. It was amazing. My Nana made a cake just for me, It said“ To Clodagh Happy Communion Love Nana!” I had an amazing day

First Confession

First Confession

At the moment in Second Class we are preparing for our First Confession. We go to the church which is the House of God where we get forgiven by God through the words and the actions of the priest.

While the priest is forgiving our sins we will sing hymns and say some prayers. The prayers are The Act of Sorrow, Prayer for Forgiveness and The Prayer After Forgiveness. the hymns we will sing include ‘Connected’, ‘I’m Sorry’ and ‘My Shepherd is the Lord’. Our favourite hymn is ‘The Lost Sheep’ because we get to sing “Baa! Baa! Baa!”

We have had a rehearsal and look forward to our first confession with Fr. Joe and Fr. David on Thursday 30th April. Our parents will come with us to the altar but we will go to the priest, by ourselves, like an adult! I think we will feel happy, relieved and wonderful…all sparkly white with forgiveness.

February in the Middle Room

We learned about three saints this month…St. Bridget and St. Valentine of course! However, on the 3rd, Fr. Roche came to our school to celebrate the feast of St. Blaise. We lined up in rows and Fr. Roche asked us to hold two candles on our throat. Now our throats should be safe from diseases all through the year.

Secondly, this month we learned about the Planets in science. We watched a PowerPoint on the Earth, Moon and Sun. We really enjoyed learning about Planets and the Sun and how our day and night happens at different times around the world.DSCF0687

Also this month, from the 8th to the 14th, we celebrated Engineering Week. On Thursday, Gerry Fahy visited our classroom. He showed us a PowerPoint. He is a software engineer. He solves problems with other software engineers all over the world! He works for Hewlett Packard. We saw photographs of his desk space…which was very tidy Ms. Fenlon! Also, Toby also showed us a PowerPoint about his wonderful aunt Ailie MacAdam. She works for a Civil Engineering Company called Bechtel. She is now working on a project called Cross Rail. Her role in the project is Chief Engineer. On Friday Pat Fahey visited us and showed us drawings and equipment he uses in his work as a Civil Engineer…Thanks everyone!DSCF0689

February also holds the deadline for the Write-A-Book project. We have lots of lovely books some of them include ‘Pets on my Lane’, ‘Tara’s Book of Poetry’, ‘The Story of Criminal City and More’, ‘Ireland’s Road to Freedom’, ‘Timmy’s Trip to the Dentist’, ‘The Terrific Three’ and ‘The Dunmore Festival’. Our books are called ‘The Magic Moonstone’ and ‘Switzerland’. With such very high standards it will be hard to choose a winner!! Our parents are invited in to view our books on Wednesday 18th before we send them off for the Write-A-Book competition organised by Galway Education Centre.

Play Leaders

Play Leaders

Three weeks ago we started a Play Leaders’ Programme. Our teacher’s noticed some of our Junior Infants didn’t always play together for the whole break so she thought they could do with a little help from older pupils. Each week two people from Third Class plan some games for Infants to First Class.

Every break the play leaders wear a high visibility vest. They wear the coloured bib so they are recognised by the Teacher on Duty and the children. If the children want or need help the Play Leaders are there to help! Each Friday the next partners accompany the leaders who are finishing their week to observe and help the new leaders prepare for their week.

So far the Play Leaders who have been on duty are Adam Carr, Seán Cunningham, Toby MacAdam, Luke Hughes, Adam Cahill and Stephen Mannion but everyone in the Middle Room will get a go.  A play leader is a leader who shows the Juniors and Seniors to play properly and safely. Also the little ones get to know the older children.

We are glad that Ms. Fenlon came up with this lovely idea. At the end of the week, the Play Leaders who have been on duty get a certificate to show that they have been a great play leader!
